Pay for All Working Time: The De Minimis Rule Q&A

Q: We have a supervisor who allows nonexempt employees to begin work a few minutes before their shift begins or to continue working “off the clock” for a few minutes after the shift ends to finish up a project. We are concerned that this time is not being properly logged on time sheets and paid as required under wage and hour laws. The supervisor says the time does not have to be paid because it is considered “de minimis” under the FLSA. Is he right?

A: Not if this “off the clock” or extra work occurs on a regular basis. Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), nonexempt employees must be paid for all hours actually worked. According to Department of Labor (DOL) regulations implementing the FLSA, if you are aware that nonexempt employees are working extra time, you must compensate the employees, even if you did not specifically request the additional work and even if it is not reflected on their time records. (You will find these regulations codified at 29 C.F.R. §§785.11 – 785.47.)

The supervisor is correct that there is a “de minimis” rule, but he is not applying it properly. The Supreme Court recognized a “de minimis” rule in Anderson v. Mt. Clemens Pottery Co., 328 U.S. 680 (1946). According to the Court, insignificant amounts of time do not have to be counted as work time, such as when an employee spends a few extra seconds or minutes working.

This rule often has been misunderstood by employers who incorrectly conclude that they can require or permit employees to report a few minutes before their scheduled starting times or stay a few minutes later on a regular basis without paying them for that time. The DOL regulations specifically reject this interpretation. The regulations state that employers do not have to count the time “only where there are uncertain and indefinite periods of time involved of a few seconds or a few minutes duration and where the failure to count such time is because of considerations justified by industrial realities. An employer may not arbitrarily fail to count as hours worked any part, however small, of the employee’s fixed or regular working time or practically ascertainable period of time he is regularly required to spend on duties assigned to him.” (This regulation is found in 29 C.F.R. §785.47.) In other words, the de minimis rule should not be used broadly as a device to avoid clocking legitimate working time.

So, if nonexempt employees are regularly working extra time before or after their normal shifts, this pattern would not meet the DOL’s description of “uncertain and indefinite periods” that may be excluded from paid working time. And, the fact that your supervisor is allowing this practice only underscores that it should be paid working time since he is aware that they are working the extra time.

Further, you also should make sure your policies are not inadvertently encouraging this practice, such as by indicating that employees are not permitted to begin work more than 15 minutes before their scheduled starting times or to stop work more than 15 minutes after their scheduled quitting times. This type of wording implies that employees may work up to an extra 30 minutes each day without having the time counted for pay purposes.

Accordingly, you should pay for the working time, even if it is not recorded on time sheets, since one of the surest ways to provoke a wage and hour complaint is not to pay employees for time they have worked. Be aware, too, that the extra time may cause the employee to work more than 40 hours in a single workweek and, thus, trigger overtime obligations as well.

Employee Or Independent Contractor: One Way Of Thinking It Through

Deciding whether an individual is an employee or independent contractor is becoming an ever more important question. Employers should carefully scrutinize each and every independent contractor relationship which exists within the business before the Labor Department, the IRS, or a state agency does it for you.

While the issue is taking on a new importance in light of federal and state attention, the criteria for the determination of bona fide independent contractor status have not gotten any clearer. Nor will this article provide a way for you to determine with legal certainty which is which. While we have no magic formula which answers every question, we do want to provide a "rule of thumb" or a "quick-scan" way of thinking about the subject which can help to raise questions about independent contractor relationships where they should be raised.

Show Me The Money

One fact that is certain is that the price and penalties for misclassification of employees will get ever higher. As one example of the increasing danger to employers who utilize independent contractors, earlier this year the DOL and the IRS entered into a Memorandum of Agreement by which the two agencies as well as a number of participating states (Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Utah, Washington, Hawaii, Illinois, Montana and New York) have agreed to share information about independent contractor relationships.

Much of the reason for the renewed interest in the distinction between employees and independent contractors has to do with state and federal revenues. Employers pay payroll and other taxes on wages they pay to employees – but not on payments to independent contractors.

This apparent benefit quickly becomes illusory in light of the penalties and back taxes which are levied when independent contractors are found to actually be employees. Another argument against a too-quick designation of independent contractor status is the presumption that everyone working for an employer is an employee. This presumption can be overcome by facts that establish a lack of employee status, but in case of doubt, the default position is inevitably in favor of employee status.

If it were easy to distinguish between employees and independent contractors, there would be no reason for this article. But as you may have guessed, it is actually quite complicated. The tests to determine whether an individual is a bona fide independent contractor are multi-tiered and subject to different interpretations. And if this weren't bad enough, the rules for determining an individual's status can differ, depending on which agency is asking the questions.

Rather than review each agency's tests for determining a legitimate independent contractor relationship, we can draw analogies to an indisputably independent contractor relationship – putting a new roof on a home. While this analogy only goes so far and is an oversimplification, it nonetheless illustrates a number of the tests used to distinguish between legitimate independent contractors and employees.

Dealing With A Roofer (make the roofer a stagehand)

A typical homeowner in need of a roof will find one or more contractors in the business. After locating one or more, the homeowner reviews qualifications, discusses price, and gets bids. After settling on details such as when the job will be completed, a contractor is ultimately selected to install the roof.

From there, it's the contractor who hires the proper number of individuals to install the roof, and who directs their work. The homeowner will not tell the contractor how the job is to be done (so long as it is done safely, and the premises are not harmed). The contract between them will include agreement about the job's completion date and the required quality of the final installation. Typically also there would be agreement on a schedule of payments which would be tied to the progress of the job.

When the roof is finished to contract specifications, the contractor receives the final agreed upon payment and the homeowner and contractor go their separate ways, likely never to do business with each other again.

Applying The Economic Realities Test

The roof installation model is a simplistic illustration but it reflects a number of factors used by government agencies and courts to scrutinize the legitimacy of a claimed independent contractor relationship. While this model doesn't include all of the relevant factors relied upon, it does provide a preliminary view into the examination which must be undertaken. It should be considered an initial screen, which, if not passed, at a minimum will be sufficient to alert employers that their use of independent contractors should be further analyzed before any federal or state authorities begin to consider the situation.

We will use the DOL set of criteria called the "economic realities test." Again we add that these are not the only criteria used by state and federal agencies, but they provide a reasonably comprehensive overview for the initial self-examination we are proposing for employers who use independent contractors in their businesses.

Control Of The Work

In our example the homeowner imposed very little direction on the actual roof installation. The homeowner set the requirements as to what final results were expected, but the method of obtaining that final result was left to the contractor. In a business context, the more control the business exerts over the manner in which the required work is accomplished, the more likely the relationship is that of employer and employee.

Investment By The Contractor

Our hypothetical roofing contractor provided all the tools and equipment he needed to install the roof on the home. On the other hand, the more a business provides the tools and equipment needed to perform the work, the more the relationship looks like that of employer and employee.

Opportunity For Profit

The roofing contractor was in charge of the ultimate amount charged for the work. He could have charged more or less for the job, depending on a number of factors exclusive to himself, such as how much profit he wanted to make on that particular job, the efficiency of his roofing crew, whether or not he was busy, etc. The less opportunity for profit, or the more an individual appears to be paid on an hourly basis, the less likely is a finding of independent contractor relationship. Payment on an hourly basis does not by itself negate a finding of independent contractor, but it is not helpful to that end.

Use Of Initiative And Judgment

The more efficient the roofing contractor, the greater is his opportunity for profit. If he has a highly trained roofing crew, he can increase his competitive relationship to other contractors. If he has invested in more efficient roofing equipment, he may be able to finish jobs faster and thus have a competitive edge over other contractors he is competing against. If he has developed a more efficient system for the installation of a certain roofing product, he will lower his costs and improve resulting profit margins.

In contrast, an employee works for an agreed- upon wage and does not have the opportunity for profit or loss. Of course, there is the possibility for career advancement for an employee, but this would take place over a period of time and an employee does not have the same opportunity for profit – or loss – as does the independent contractor.

Permanency Of The Relationship

Our roofing contractor finished the job and moved on to the next job with another homeowner. When the roof was installed, the relationship was over. Shorter or clearly defined discrete projects with a beginning and ending point are more closely associated with the independent contractor relationship and longer engagements look more like employment relationships.

Integration With An Organization's Business

In our example putting a roof on the house had no connection to the homeowner's primary employment or means of making a living. By the same token, the more central the work performed by the independent contractor is to the proper functioning of the business, the more the relationship looks like that of employer – employee. And certainly if the same work is done by employees and by independent contractors, that would be an extremely strong argument that the independent contractor is actually an employee.

Obviously each factor listed above does not always have one clear answer and a state or federal agency or court will consider all of the above factors as well as others in reaching a final determination whether there is an employment relationship rather than one of independent contractor.

Don't Try This At Home

While not fail-safe, this cursory summary can help you to identify where problems may exist. If you find questionable situations after this cursory examination, it is much preferable to contact your employment counsel to get certainty rather than let the government answer the question for you. Blizzard Entertainment does it again. BLIZZCON 2011

And again, In-House Production supplies labor for the event of the year. Anaheim Convention Center bulges at the seems as BlizzCon takes over 4 large halls A, B, C, and D as well as several of the meeting rooms.
From roles of table with 100's of computers and all the games that Blizzard develops, all in one place with the designers of all the games in one place, costumes from all the games and a runway to show off all the fabulous costumes contest.

We started laying out the floor in all the halls on Sunday at 5pm and for the next 7 hours layout was tape measures and chock. At 12 midnight Monday moning we started.

At midnight some 50 High Riggers, Ground Riggers, Truss Handlers, Truck Loaders started the rigging hang with over 300 chain motors, 4000 feet of aluminum truss, banners, sets .

At 8am the crews moved in with a total of 250 Audio Tech, Video Tech, Lighting Tech, Programmers, Stage Carpenters, Loaders, Pushers, Fork Lift operators.

Production Associates was the technical team that put it all together. Michael Thuney was the Technical Director that put this team together. Creative Technology was the Audio and Video team, 4wall took care of all the lighting, Sets built bu FRST, Direct TV was all over the center and on show days, Friday and Saturday had live feeds in all the halls.

In House Production supplied all the added labor needed for Creative Technology, 4 Wall and FRST. 504 was the IATSE Local stagehand labor union that we used for our labor. We had labor from 504, 33, 720, 707 all working through 504. We signed a labor contract with the International to divert al union benefits to the workers local union.

What a great show. Started Monday morning and by Wednesday we were all ready or Thursday rehearsals for Friday opening day. The show started Friday at 9am with crowds of gamers running in. Show went from Friday through Saturday and at the end of Sunday night, all the halls were emptyas everyone and everything was gone.

16 boom lifts, 18 flat bed trucks, 9 - 3 wheel scooters, 3 forklifts, 8 - 32' scissors lift and over 250 crew members and the event was over as fast as it started.

SAFETY TIPS ABOUT TEXTING AND DRIVING

September Safety Tip: Distracted Driving

Most people know that it's dangerous to text and drive, but there's another fact that most people probably don't know: vehicle crashes are the leading cause, year after year, of worker fatalities. Texting while driving - the latest, most dangerous form of distracted driving - is a fast-growing hazard that endangers everyone. The human toll is tragic. The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) reports that in 2009 more than 5,400 people died in crashes linked to distraction and hundreds of thousands more were injured. With the explosive growth of cell phones and texting technology, the numbers will only get worse - unless we do something about it.

Employers have a special role to play in this effort because of their legal obligation under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act) to protect workers' safety. OSHA started by reaching out to employers to remind them that their obligation applies to all of their employees, including the millions of people who do their work behind the wheel of a vehicle.

Companies are in violation of the OSH Act if, by policy or practice, they require texting while driving, create incentives that encourage or condone it, or structure work so that texting is a practical necessity for workers to carry out their job. On OSHA's distracted driving webpage you'll find a letter to employers and a video in which David Michaels, the Assistant Secretary of Labor who heads OSHA, lays out the safety challenge posed by texting and driving and employers' roles in addressing this challenge. Also available on the webpage is a Distracted Driving: No Texting brochure which explains to employers and supervisors the importance of never requiring texting by their workers while driving.

President Obama took the first step in 2009 with an Executive Order banning texting for all Federal employees. Thirty-two states and the District of Columbia have already passed measures to make their roadways safe from this hazard and OSHA, DOT and other agencies and organizations have given this issue high priority. The Nevada legislature passed Senate Bill (SB) 140 that prohibits all drivers from texting or using a hand-held cell phone while driving. Beginning October 1, 2011, a warning will be issued to violators of the new law. Full enforcement of the law will begin January 1, 2012.

Texting while driving is a big and growing hazard and it will take a strong, concerted effort to bring this problem under control. Nevada SCATS urges our members, associates and allies to join in this effort. Together we can help reduce the great danger posed by drivers who send, receive and read text messages while behind the wheel of their vehicle.

THE PARIS HOTEL AND CASINO, ENTERTAINMENT DEPARTMENT IN LAS VEGAS, HAD A GREAT IDEA. TO HAVE A LIVE BAND AT THEIR POOL WITH ALL THE LIGHTING , SOUND AND VIDEO FOR THEIR SPECIAL EVENT. WHAT A GREAT BAND THE HOTEL PICKED FOR THIS EVENT. EARTH WIND AND FIRE.

JED AT PARIS CALLED IN-HOUSE PRODUCTION TO HELP WITH THIS TASK. WHAT WE CAME UP WITH WAS A SELF STANDING TRUSS TOWER SYSTEM TO HANG LIGHTING, SOUND AND VIDEO FROM. THE LIGHTING RIG HAD TO MOVE SEPARATE FROM SOUND AND VIDEO. WE HAD AT IN-HOUSE PRODUCTION ALL THE TRUSS, CHAIN MOTORS AND STAGING TO MAKE THEIR IDEA WORK.

THE ONLY REAL PROBLEM WITH HAVING A POOL PARTY AT THE PARIS HOTEL POOL IS THE POOL IN ON THE THIRD (3RD) FLOOR. THE ONLY ONE WAY THERE. DOWN A LONG HALL WAY, UP A SMALL ELEVATOR AND THROUGH DOUBLE DOORS THAT ARE 6'-8" TALL. IT TAKES ABOUT 15 MINUTES TO MAKE IT FROM THE LOADING DOCK TO THE POOL.

EVERYTHING WE HAD WAS ON WHEEL,S AND MADE TO FIT IN THE HALLWAY AS IT CAME OFF THE TRUCKS. IT ALL WORKED OUT AS PLANNED.

PARIS HOTEL HAD A GREAT EVENT. WE HOPE THEY HAVE PLAN TO DO MORE POOL PARTY'S IN THE FUTURE. WE LOOK FORWARD TO DOING IT AGAIN.

In-House Production, a Union Stagehand Payroller Service. A Payroller Service is a Payroll company with a twist. A Payroller is a Labor Provider that has Signed a Contract / Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with a labor / trades Union. By signing this CBA with the union, the Payroller becomes the employer of the employees.

Payroll Service is an accounting business whose main focus is the preparation of payroll for other businesses. Such firms are often run by Certified Public Accountants, through a typical payroll processing company will refer to itself as a service rather then a CPA firm, to distinguish its payroll service from the general tax and accounting service that are generally not offered by a payroll service. The typical client of a payroll service is a small business - one just large enough for payroll to be complicated to the point of a hassle, but still small enough to not merit its own full-time payroll department. The tasks that can generally be expected of just about all payroll serves are:
1: Printing of employee pay checks on time for payday
2: Appropriate calculation of withholding of federal, state, and local taxes
3: Calculation of payroll taxes to be paid by employer (such as Social Security and Medicare)
4: Filing of quarterly and annual payroll reports
5: Depositing of withholding amounts with tax authorities
6: Printing and filing of year-end employee tax documents such as Form W-2

A "Payroller" is a Labor Provider that has signed a contract (CBA) with a Union. The payroller is responsible for all employees working under the CBA, W-4, I-9, Sign-In Sheets, Sign-Out Sheets, Work Place Safety, Audits from the Union amd/or Insurance Companies, Dealing with Employees and there Problems (HR), Dealing with the Union and its Officers when they believe the CBA is not being followed to there interpretation of the Agreement. This is one reason why the Payrollers cost is more then a Payroll service. A Payroll Service has no interest or need to deal with the Employees, he Unions and its problems.

If the Employees Payroll Checks are Wrong, Union Benefits are Wrong, Hours and Rates aare Wrong, this is NOT the Payroll Services Problem. They did NOT Sign the CBA. You are NOT there Employees. Talk to your Employer.

With all CBA's, the union has the right to go through the companies books. This is so the union can make sure that the company with the CBA is working or paying within the agreement. A payroll service has NO CBA, the union is unable to go through the Payroll Service books. As not having this CBA, dealing with the union and the cost that is associated with the union, the cost to do payroll is far less per employee.

A Union Payroller cost is much higher per person then a payroll service. This is because of the cost associated with dealing with the union and being the payroll service. Some Payrollers hire or have hired payroller services so they do not have to deal with state or federal taxes. In-House Production does all it payroll in house. We deal with the union, we deal with the audit from the union as well as audits from the insurance companies and all payroll service needs. You our client can spend more time on your business, not in audits.

Most Production Companies or Audio Visual Companies going out of state for their client, have no idea how to deal with the Out of State Labor, Labor Unions or go through all the Government Paperwork deal with the state taxes. The system below is 42' by 34' by 25' high. we added 5' off the front for front of stage lighting. We are making some clever grapples for inter truss to hang from. Soon to the blog.
As you can see in the photos, we have a 20' and 10' circle truss hanging. All our Rigging Hardware and Staging is RENT ABLE. The one thing we like doing is providing LABOR.     Many years ago in a far far away town, there was a crew that believed FRIDAY was HAWAIIAN SHIRT DAY, working as a team was how things were, making sure the show was flawless, and at the end of the night, sitting around with a GOOD CIGAR, and FRIENDS, GOOD FRIENDS. We like working the Penn & Teller Show. This is where In-House Production started, and after 10 YEARS, we are still working the Penn & Teller shows 5 nights a week.

    This photo is from a long time ago. Some of the crew in this photo have retired and moved on. Then replaced with new faces, but most are still working the Penn & Teller show every night. This is less then half the crew that works the show 5 night a week.

     I have to say that working the Penn & Teller Show is one of them jobs that come around once. Most of the crew in the photo have worked with Penn & Teller over 15 years. Working their stage show, the TV shows, or helping with the props in there shop. I started with Penn & Teller back in 1992 when they first showed up in a strip showroom in Las Vegas. Electrical Service: The New Drayage
If you're shocked by the escalation of gas prices lately you'll pass out when you hear what electrical services for trade shows can now cost.

According to Meeting News, gas prices have jumped more than 19 cents over the past three weeks, approaching the all-time high, according to the Lundberg Survey published Sunday. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular is $3.76, the Lundberg Survey found. The previous survey three weeks ago found an average of $3.57. That means prices are now just 35 cents -- "within firing range" -- of the all-time high of $4.11 set in July 2008.

Not to be outdone by the hubris of the oil companies when it comes to setting prices, a recent show in Las Vegas charged $1,139 per hour to rent a condor, and $44 to rent an electrical cord for the show.
It would seem that exhibitor complaints about the cost of drayage may soon be drowned out by the gasps heard when they receive their electrical services invoices.

After 5 years at 4206 W Reno and 3 years at 4424 Wynn road and 4 year on Polaris, In-House Production will be moving into a new location. Bigger and better. 42,000 square feet of space under one roof. 6,000 of the space is a 2 level office space. Taking 3 building that In-House has been using and now only having one space is going to make us a better and more efficient company. Not only will we have all the offices together with warehouse rental space and storage space, we will have room for a new training room that can be used by out safety and lift training classes as well as used by others wanting to do training to better all that workforce. Look for In-House Production new entertainment rigging classes to start within the year. Now that he have a building that has a 27' inside ceiling that we can hang motors and truss from for our rigging classes and for layout of truss systems or whatever that need may be.

PAYROLL OR PAYROLLING. WHAT DO THEY MEAN IN ENTERTAINMENT

PAYROLL/LABOR in the ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY is what? When you call that labor company in some town in the USA, are you calling a PAYROLL COMPANY or a LABOR COMPANY. What is the difference? Payroll is the sum of all financial records of salaries for an employee, wages, bonuses and deductions. A LABOR COMPANY may do payroll, but has the labor you are looking to use and may use a payroll company.

Payroll Company responsibility is making sure the deductions are on the paychecks. Most companies outsource their payroll service. When looking for a payroll service, you will pay around 2 to 3 percent of total payroll costs. If you are a large company, you might even get that outsourced payroll service for 1 percent.

There are many entertainment payroll companies that you can outsource your payroll service to. Cast and Crew, Entertainment Partners and Caps Universal are several names that come to mind. At the end of the day, it is a cheap way of having your payroll done.

You, the company has the contracts with the labor union or organization, you make the call, you deal with the labor, you supply all the safety gear, you fill out all the labor time sheets, you add the hours, pay rates and send to the payroll service total hours and rates per person per day for a week total, you have a person whose sole job is dealing with payroll paperwork. The payroll company added federal and state taxes to your numbers and send back the total cost for that weeks labor with a 1 to 3 percent markup for each worker.

Now you have all this information, what happens next? You agree to the total payroll cost for that weeks employees payroll and send money to the payroll company. Some payroll companies have the ability to withdraw total payroll costs from your bank account. This is done in two steps. First step is hourly payroll. Second step is all taxes and deductions that are sent to the government.

If you don't have the money in the bank to give the payroll company, the employees don't get paid. The employees are yours, the problems with the employees are yours. Don't hand the employees a paycheck for services rendered as you may have a problem, not the payroll company. The responsibility of the payroll company is to make sure the taxes and deductions are right and paid to the government. If you don't pay the payroll service, they have no responsibility to you or the employees. This is how they charge that 1 to 3 percent.

Doing non-union payroll takes very little time when processing payroll. Start adding union benefits, benefits in general and the cost starts to increase unless you are giving that payroll company $100,000.00 plus worth of payroll each week. Your hired payroll processing employee does all the work and the payroll company cuts payroll checks. If you have done the payroll wrong and need that paycheck for that employee, that is an extra cost to cut payroll checks out of order. WE AT IN-HOUSE PRODUCTION CAN BE THAT PAYROLL COMPANY, OR ADD A TWIST AND KEEP YOU FROM HIRING THAT PERSON TO PROCESS PAYROLL.

Back in October of 2010, In-House Production, with Production Associates LLC. and the help of IATSE Local 504 of Anaheim California, helped to create one large work force of STAGEHAND LABOR for ONE LARGE EVENT. This was an EVENT that took over the Anaheim Convention Center. THIS WAS AN EVENT OF THE YEAR. This was done with STAGEHANDS taking care of FREIGHT to LIGHTING, AUDIO, VIDEO STAGING AND RIGGING.This event took Hall A, Hall B, Hall C, Hall D and some break-out rooms. What an event. Over 200 PLUS STAGEHANDS working everyday from Truck Loaders, Audio Technician, Video Technician, Fork Operators for the total install. We even took care of the cleaning the halls at the end of this event. ALL PRODUCTION RIGGERS used on the BlizzCon Event were ETCP CERTIFIED. With over 400 Chain Motors hanging holding up over 7000 feet of Truss, Projector and Video Screens hanging over all the 4 halls as well as Speaker Clusters hanging everywhere. There was more Staging, Video and Audio used for this 2 DAY EVENT then in a long time. BLIZZARD ENTERTAINMENT IS THE COMPANY. Michael Thuney, President of PRODUCTION ASSOCIATES LLC is the person. If you need that Production person that is needed for that not quite a CONVENTION or STAGE SHOW, he is the guy. In-House Production on this job had NO injuries, damages that could have added to the install or strike. The Crews worked Great, the Production Teams worked Great, I it was by far a GREAT EVENT. The event was a BIG SUCCESS FOR ALL. THANK YOU MICHAEL THUNEY AND BLIZZCON.

CUSTOM NODES AND FLOOR COVER PLATES

In-House Production was asked to come up with a system that could be added into the concrete floor with a lift out of over 2000lb of force. The idea was to be able to use for guides and bolt down to the floor anything one could imaging. Three things had to be part of the design.

(1). It had to not rust. Being mounted into the floor, water and cleaning fluid will become part of its dayly life. (2). It had to be flush to the floor when not in use. This could not be a trip hazard as the Ballroom is used for a number of events. (3). It had to have the center screw able to screw-out. Custom screw plugs can be built for those custom events that requires that different look. This node has a 5/8" threaded hole to except eye bolts. The Node were engineered to meet any city requirment and inspection after being installed. Great Idea with a custom look for that special ballroom floor.

After driving a scissor lift over and bending the FLOOR POCKET COVERS and not having the water and elect covers not matching with the custom nodes that have been power coaded, something had to be done with the floor pockets. As wit the Nodes, We cam up with custom built FLOOR POCKETS

WITH HINGED DOORS. We built them from 3/8" plate and added sides to the doors so they coulld not cave in. Painted the same color as the nodes to match the floor as the nodes do, it came out to look as the floor did. We at In-House Production DESIGNED, HAD BUILT AND INSTALLED BOTH THE CUSTOM NODES AND CUSTOM FLOOR PLATE COVERS. LD ASSISTANT TRAINING CLASS

To all the 18 that Attended the LD Assistant training class at In-House Production.

I want to thank you for attending LD Assistant at our warehouse. I hope that over the 3 days, you learned how to use LD Assistant to its full potential. In-House Production is always glad to work with Rufus on all his training class needs.

We have had 2 class sittings with Rufus to date. We hope the future will bring more. If you have any ideas how to make the classes better, please let me know. We are always looking to improve the classes.

In-House Production believes in training in our industry. We now offer classes for Forklift, Scissor lift, and Boom lift as well as safety class for OSHA 10 and OSHA 30. In early 2011 we will offer Rigging Training. This training will work on teaching the body of knowledge in rigging for the ETCP Certification.

As you were at the warehouse, you saw some of the products we have for rent or sale. I hope you saw some of the custom rigging parts that we also make.

In-House Production started in 2001 as a union labor/payroll service supplying stagehand labor for Theater, Conventions, Trade Shows, Corporate Events, Permanent or Short Term Productions in Las Vegas. February 2011, we celebrate our 10 year anniversary. Within those 10 years of business, we have taken our labor/payroll service to Hawaii, California, Texas, and of course Las Vegas. We are also set up to supply our stagehand labor/payroll service in New Orleans and Arizona. In 2010 we opened an office in Corpus Christi, Texas. This office is run by Kelly Whitlock.

In-House Production has been supplying stagehand labor for ten (10) years as well as supplying payroll service with that labor. As a labor provider, In-House Production recognizes the need for certified theater technicians. This is why In-House Production has been part of ETCP and is recognized as an ETCP employer. The President of In-House Production, Patrick J Bash is certificated ETCP Arena and Theater Rigger as well as an ETCP Rigging Trainer. He is a Subject Matter Expert for the ETCP rigging certification program. He has been part of the training program of IATSE local 702 in Las Vegas, Nevada for over twnety (20) years. He started the High Rigging Training program and is a Trustee on the Training Trust for Local 720.

The Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon is right around the corner. In-House Production, working with one of the Scenery Stage Companies in Las Vegas has supplied 12" x 12" aluminum stage truss and 30" x 30" aluminum base plate. As we know with load-in, rigging goes up first and this is where it start. Small photo of truss used for cable runs and many other uses. This is a once a year great event.

Sony PlayStation brings their meeting to the Four Seasons at Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. In-House Production is there to supply Install labor. In-House Production also supplied 20.5" stage trussing to hold the Large Rear Projection Screen Frame built by StageHouse in Las Vegas. Chase Webb was on site to help with all their labor needs from unloading the Trucks to putting together the Screen Frame, Sound, Lighting and Video. Then the strike and loading up the trucks. It was a great event for Sony and a seamless install.

Sony PlayStation packs up the trucks and heads to Texas. This time is GameStop in San Antonio Texas and In-House Production is their suppling labor for this install. Kelly Whitlock is there on site for the load-in. The event was a big hit in Las Vegas and a big hit in San Antonio. The event was without any problems. The crews in both Las Vegas and San Antonio where on top of there game for this install.
There is nothing like having a crew that knows where things go and how they should go together without having to stand over there shoulder. This is the crew we at In-House Production believe out clients should have on their event or production.

CUSTOM LABOR FOR CUSTOM STAIRS

At the end of 2009, before the opening of City Center, In-House Production was given the job of putting together labor to install some FREE STAND CURVED STAIRS as seen in the photo. Show-Canada did the design of the free standing curved stair unit, and then built the stair structure needed in their shop. When it was time to bring the stairs to Vegas, Show-Canada needed some skilled LABOR to get the stairs, from the truck in he basement to the 58th floor. 8 large steel pieces and not one was square, put them on dollies, fit them into the elevator and ride up 58 floors. Get them out of the elevator and down a small hallway and into the room they live at now. Now the fun begins. A big jig saw puzzle that bolts and welds together. A little trimming, a little fitting and the free standing steel stairs are up. Then Gladstone came in and we started it all over. Taking the custom bent brass from the trucks to the 58th floor. In-House Production said good-by to Show-Canada and hello to Gladstone. Our crew was up to the challenge of putting the brass together and giving it that look. A little welding, a little fitting, a little polishing and look what we came up with. A little steel, a little brass and a great photo of the stairs. The owner of Gladstone in the good looking lady on the stairs. In-House had STAGEHAND because of the detail talent, and talented IRONWORKERS welding it all together. Steel and Brass. Show-Canada and Gladstone knew that with the talent In-House was able to put together, made this job a no brainier. STAGEHANDS, IRONWORKERS, Show-Canada's crew and then Gladstone's crew working together. Look what we came up with. What a great look. Within a couple of months, the stairs were on TV. Thank you so much for lending us the truck for our Helldorado float. Helldorado Parade was on Saturday May 15th, 2010 at 7pm and went down 4th street to Fremont. The Flamingo Club is a group of Las Vegas locals who own/rent home in the older "historic" districts that include Huntridge, Beverly Green, Scotch 80's and other "vintage" locations. The group is made up of people of all ages but we are all committed to promoting life in Las Vegas. The motto is "Creating Community One Cocktail Party at a time" Basically it is a way to promote getting to know your neighbors rather than living in a neighborhood where people are disconnected from the people around them. Some of the members are "old timers" in fact one of them Randy went to high school with my Dad in the 60's - they had an interesting conversation about the teachers at old Las Vegas High School (LVHS). Others are pretty recent transplants. We couldn't have had a float without In-House Production and the use of the flatbed truck.

After many hours of class room and having her head in the books, it paid off. Amey can conduct the 10 - hour and 30 - hour Construction course in accordance with Outreach Training Program guidelines. This fits with all the training she does with Forklifts, Scissor lifts, and Boom lifts. Amey is also the safety director of In-House Production. She works to keep all our stagehand workers safe on all our jobs.

CLIMBING TOWER TRUSS SYSTEM

How about a 30' x 30' x 26' tall truss tower system temporally installed inside your building so you have something to hang lights from. But you have no rigging points in the ceiling to hang this 30' x 30' aluminum stage truss from. You need truss to hang light from to light that main stage boxing ring for that big fight night. You need an IDEA. Call In-House Production and have them bring out and install their Tower Leg Climbing Truss System. With the use of their Pro-Lifter, they can stand that tower system safely with a only a couple of crew members. That 30' x 30' x 24' trim height was no problem for In-House Production. Lighting the fighters for the crowd makes a great show. We at In-House Production also supplied all the rigging hardware to hang speakers, and with our Rental Box of Banner Poles / Clic-Pipe and Banner Clamps, they were able to hang all the advertisement Banners all over the room. What a great income bust.

LAS VEGAS CHILDREN FESTIVAL

When Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department called and asked for a small staging plaform for a party they were throwing in the park, how do or even why would you say no. A party in the park and it was a FREE party in the park for the kids festival. FREE FOOD AND DRINKS, ENTERTAINMENT, CLOWNS, FACE PAINTING AND MUSIC. We at In-House Production were glad to gave and installed a 20' x 20' platform 2' high right in the middle of the park. We were glad to be able to help with this festival, and hope that we get a call to help LVMPD with a stage or anything we might have to help them help the neighborhood.

Have you seen the winter 2010 issue of PROTOCAL. Protocal is The Journal of the Entertainment Technology Industry. As a member of ESTA this journal comes in the mail. As I looked through the magazine, I come across a good friend, name Roy Bickel. Page 9 is the 2009 ROW Awards Preeminent Judges and there he is. A photo and article about Roy Bickel. The knowledge Roy has in all kinds of Theatrical Rigging is incredible. What a Judge. And if it has something to do with Rigging, look out.

Also the page before Roy, page 8 is Tim Brennan. Tim received the Rock Our World Award for the Bad Boys Luminaire. Tim Brennan is working with Production Resource Group and is a long time Nevadan with a family that goes way back in Las Vegas entertainmnet lighting business.

THEATRICAL RIGGERS

What happen when you need to do some creative rigging? What happens when you need creative labor? You call In-House Production. How do you take a 40’ by 60’ light grid, build it on the ground, lift it 30’ in the air and hang it from the ceiling. You call In-House Production. We at In-House Production have some of the top Riggers in Las Vegas. WE DO RIGGING, WE DO STAGE LABOR. We took 3 runs of aluminum 20.5” truss, set in on large rolling dollies, built this large light grid on top of the trussing, wired it for lighting and sound, hung chain motors from the ceiling and to the trussing, then lifted it into place, bolted it into the building and lowered the truss out from under the the grid and took the chain motors away. This is a perfect rigging job for theatrical riggers. We didn’t do this just one time. No. We do this over and over.

This all started with bringing in some of the top ironworkers in Las Vegas to install I-Beams to hang light grid points from for this permanent lighting grid. Bring in 9 truckloads of bolt together steel boxes to make the light grid, and then create not one, but several grids. Add custom lighting and audio to the light grids, wire them up, add rigging hang points to hang chain motors from and you have a very usefull light grid that can be used to hang conventions, events or shows.

We at In-House Production can supply all your theatrical labor needs from Riggers to Electricians to whatever your show labor needs are. We are able to do that small show with 2 techs to that 100 plus tech show with everyone working in controlled chaos. If you have done any time on a show, you know what controlled chaos is. The World Famous Magic of Penn and Teller has been performing at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas for over 8 years, and In-House Production has been their with them. From the First day Penn and Teller walked on the stage, and took over the Rio Showroom, back then called the Samba Theater. Now called the Penn and Teller Showroom. In-House Production has suppled the show crew and took care of there show crew payroll needs. In-House Production is still supplying stage labor for the Penn and Teller show, and any event the Rio may have in its showroom as well as general maintanance to the showroom equipment.

GROUND SUPPORT SYSTEM

Today we tryed the NEW PRO-LIFTER 40 for the first time on a jobsite. I have to say "WOW". I took 3 hours from the street to hanging light with 4 riggers. 32' x 28' with 25' legs. Not 1 person had to walk the tower up, climb the leg to hang the motor over. All we did was build the leg, put in on the PRO-LIFTER 40 and watch it stand up. In a couple of minutes, the leg was standing up with the chain motor pluged in and working. No ropes, No walking the truss.

At loadout we were done taking down the ground support system and loading the truck. It took less then 2 hours with only 4 riggers. All the install crew were SAFE as the legs went up, and SAFE as the legs came down. This was In-House Production 4 leg Ground Support System we sude the PRO-LIFTER 40 on. The PRO-LIFTER 40 is avabilite for rent in Las Vegas. I have added photos to look at.

IHP TRUSS TOWER SYSTEM AND HOW WE LIFT IT

12" TOWER TRUSS SYSTEM
"SAFE TO USE AND CREW FRIENDLY"

Something new for TOWER TRUSS. We built our own lifting system for our use, but you can buy one at LIFTER SYSTEMS. We have put together ours to stand our own 30' tower truss up with the chain motor hanging on the headblock. This is SAFE to use for the crew (you do not need 8 crew members to lift or lower the tower. No need to climb to the top of the tower and lift the chain over the headblock when installing). The lift works on 110 POWER. Just plug it into the wall. 2 people can take down 4 towers 30' tall truss towers SAFELY in less then 1 hours. When tower is down, you then remove the chain motors, unbolted truss and then put on carts. We had a tower pull over a scissor lift with a person in it and he did get hurt. No more of people getting hurt.

CABLE GRIPPER VIDEO / ProLocks

The video's is out. 2 training videos or now on our web site. They are under training. Get an idea about the use of Cable Grippers or as we call them "ProLocks". How to use them and what they can be used for. We also talk about "ProGrips". Take 1 "ProGrips" add a 3/8"x16 thread size Eye Bolt and you have a VerLock or RiteLock. When using the VerLock or Rite Lock, the Eye Nut is rated to carry more weight then the cable gripper "ProGrip". Working load of the Eye Nut is aroung 1000lb and the ProGrip working load is only 225lb for 1/8" aircraft cable. "ProLocks" are all one pieces. Check the Video out for more on "ProLocks".

Said the church had purchased speakers from PRG for the new stage area and asked if we at In-House Production could hang the speakers. Hang something, we are all over that. LORD OF THE DANCE

Global Entertainment took Lord of the Dance into the Steve Wyrick Theater for a Month run. Because of the off stage space, Global Entertainment rented chain motors from us and had us go in and install the chain motors so they could lift there set off the floor for storage when not in use. We were hoping for Lord of the Dance to have a long and health run at the Steve Wyrick Theater. The theater gods at the Steve Wyrick theater were all but good to Lord of the Dance. We hope the best for Global Entertainment and Lord of the Dance.

MORE RACKING

Material Handling is working as Mike has planed it. We have been busy doing material handling (pallet racking) all over town. We don't sale the racking, we supply the labor to install the racking. Mike has had Dan and Lemont all over town installing racking. Some of the jobs have been for (1) Centerennial Hills Library, (2) Trade Show Technical Warehouse, (3) Metro Police Storage Warehouse, (4) Las Vegas Water District and the list goes on.

Mike has been busy working on bids to install pallet racks. And he hooked the big one. We will be installing all the storage racking on all the floors at Aria Tower at City Center. What a job. Mike did a great, bidding on and putting together all the labor needed to install miles of racking. Not everyday a hotel with over 50 floors goes up and needs racking for the maids rooms and stations on every working floor. Working with Nauman Hobbs on this project, or any project is always good. They sale the racking, we supply the labor to install it. Back to what we do, laying out the project and supplying the labor to install the project. We dont sale it, we install it.

MORE CITY CENTER

The City Center may be BIG with all the high rises but there is a hotel that is standing next to the City Center and is not part of the City Center. It is called the COSMOPOLITAN RESORT AND CASINO. To get to the Cosmopolitan you drive through the property of City Center. In-House Production has been hired by Show Canada to install the Lighting Grid system in the Ballrooms on the third floor at the Cosmopolitan Hotel. Custom built light boxes built by Show Canada, hanging from brackets welded to the I-Beams. Things we like to do. Supply crews and install things. We are good at installing permanent or short term things.

City Center in Las Vegas is a big place and close to being done. In-House Production has been on the City Center site for over a year. We have been working with Stage Technologies doing rigging and installing winch motors built by Stage Technologies. We have been suppling crews in the Convention Center and Elvis Showroom in City Center. What a BIG place. We had our crew working over at the Rain Nite Club in the Palms Hotel. The Nite Club has stage trusses moving over the heads of the nite life people without a problem. We have taken down 9 chain motors and went through and inspected the motors. Replaced all the chains and chain gears, checked all the brakes and a good once over. Then we put the chain motors back without missing a nite of action. "See you at RAIN"

I have not added a thing to the Blog in some time. What's new at In-House Production? We are about done with the new offices. We have added a total of 8 new office at Reno Ave.

The warehouse has started to come together with all of our rental supplies having a place.

We have started to take down and repair all install the CM chain motors in one of the nite club in the Palms Hotel.

We have started talks with with one of the movie theaters in Hawaii. This will to take over all theater repairs.

In-House Production, this week, signed a new contract with IATSE 720 for all the stagehand labor used. Contract good from 2009 to 2013. This is a good for our clients to insure we have the most qualified work force for their event.
We are sorry to here that one of the non-union labor companies had a rigging death with one of the workers. This person was a young person that fell through the ceiling at one of the hotel showrooms. Because of lack of leadership within the showroom and the lack of training by the labor company, this should have never happen. We at In-House Production pray for the family and hope this kind of death will never happen.

Lion King is a big hit in Las Vegas at Mandalay Bay. We are glad we could be a small part of the install.

Look for our NEW NEWS LETTER to be out this week. We have put together a news letter to e-mail out monthly with what is happening at In-House. This month is about the new Safety Director and a little about him.

The In-House LOGO will be changing its look. The logo is getting a face lift to bring it into the 21st century.

LION KING

LION KING AT MANDALAY BAY.
In-House may not be doing the labor for the Lion King install. Disney signed a contract with local 720 for that, but we are doing a lot of other things. We have a contract to rent and install a Gantry over the stage. This will hang under the drops hanging in the fly loft. The gantry will have 4 chain motors that can move all over the stage. This is so they can move scenery to the basement. We are putting in a new locking rail on the lower loading bridge. This is so the rail can be moved from the stage floor. We also have the rehearsal studio that we are adding 3 temp dance floors. 1 is 70'x50' and 1 is 60'x70' and 1 is 8'x47'. This will be a sprung floor. We are hanging drapes, building wall with doors, renting music stands, garment racks and mirrors to dance by.

The time has come to start installing the Dock Level Units at City Center. This is our Material Handling Department doing the install. Docks in one part of the large complex are done and ready. We now can install 7 Dock Level Units. The Dock Level Units have been at our warehouse for about a year weighting for this time to come. When done we will have installed 35 total units.

TRAINING IS A BIG AT IN-HOUSE PRODUCTION.

GREAT NEWS. THIS OSHA CLASS WAS A BIG HIT. WE HAVE NOW ADDING A CLASS FOR THIS WEEK. WE HAVE 10 MORE CREW MEMBERS IN THE 2 DAY CLASS.

We have put together a OSHA 10 HOUR CONSTRUCTION AND GENERAL INDUSTRY TRAINING CLASS. We have a total of 30 of our top employees attending this 2 day training class. We have put together 2 classes with a total of 15 in each class. Classes are January 29 and 30, then February 18 and 19 of 2009.

Some of the top Las Vegas Entertainment Riggers and ETCP Riggers will have a little more to add to their knowledge when it comes to WORKING SAFE and SAFETY IN THE WORK PLACE.

WAREHOUSE FUN

In-House Production has been working on our warehouse for some time now. This warehouse is where we keep all our rental gear. Chain Motors, Truss and Platforms plus a lot more. Everything in one place. 9000 square feet with a 25000 square foot yard. That works. The Pearl Concert Theater loading dock at the Palms Hotel is a 7 iron away from our front door.
For the past 10 months we have tried to have 3 phase power installed. Working with Nevada Power and a licensed Electric Contractor has been fun. After all that, we now have 2 - 200 amp panels hanging on the wall. All they have to do now is pull the wire. We are hopping by the end of this month we will have 3 phase power. We took over this warehouse back in March of 2008 with our power needs to be done within 2 months. All of this for 3 phase chain motors. 50 amps would have worked. Now we have 400 amps. It will be nice to have all our rental gear in one place and not moving it from the office where we have 3 phase power.

WHAT A LOT OF RACKING. When you look at the CAD drawing of rows of racking you thing "no problem". Everything looks small on a piece of paper, but when you see over 3300 feet of racking all in one building all you say is WOW. When you stand at one end of the racking and look all the way to the other end, you say "WOW" that is a lot of racking.

Our main man Dan has lead a crew of 6 on this mission of racking. They did a great job. You look down the row and it goes on and on. I can't even thing of what it will take to fill all that racking. Good luck filling that.

NEW INVENTORY

2009 started out great. We rented out stage truss and chain motors to Pro Stage West. They had several booths they were taking care of at this years 2009 CES Show in Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Convention Center this January.

To help fill Pro Stage West order, we added to our stock of rental items over 1000 feet of new 12" x 12" truss. We also added CM 1/2 ton motors and controllers, plus a new 20' circle truss out of 12" x 12" truss. What a great addiction to our rental stock. Truss, Chain Motors and 10' and 20' round truss made from 12"x12" truss.

CHRISTMAS PARTY 2008

On December 19th all of us at In-House Production got together with our families and had a great night of eating, dancing and parting. It was a great night to dress up with family members and do something other then work. This years Christmas party was at Panevino Ristorante across the from the airport on Sunset.

I have to say the Atmosphere was great and the D.J. ROCKED. We look forward to the next Christmas party and where it will be, no one knows.

"WOW"
I was going over some of the items we have for rental at In-House Production. We have over 4000 feet of truss and all the hardware that goes with the truss. We carry 12 inch and 20.5 inch truss ready to be used.
We also have over 70 chain motors ready to be worked. we have 1/4 ton - 1/2 ton 1 ton and 2 ton motors with all the cable and controllers to hang that truss you need for that lighting show.

We are changing our stage platforms. We are trying to take some of the weight out of them and make them more forklift friendly.

Our training room at In-House Production is just about done. This is a 2000 square foot room set up for training. We plan to offer Fork, Scissor and boom lift training. Starting 12-7-08 Ives Group will be in our training room training those students to be instructors. This first class is a 2 day ForkLift training class.

If you have or know of someone that would or needs to be trained to be a lift instructor, Classes are open. Just give us a call.

Some of the classes we plan to have will be Rigging Classes. The first in rigging will be a Knot class. This class will go over 10 knots that are used and what they are used for. This will be a 4 hour class and the start of a 7 part training class. Keep looking on our web site for more info to come.

In-House Production and Show Distribution put on a demonstration of Chainmaster’s VarioLift system today. Invited guests watched as the collection of ½ and 1-ton VarioLifts, mounted on trolleys, cruised around trusswork set up for the demonstration, all programmed through networked computer controllers. VarioLifts feature variable speed control, positional precision to 2 millimeters, very low operational noise, and free programmable start/stop ramps.

In-House Production was a sponsor at yesterday's IATSE Local 720's 2008 Golf Tournament benefitting Safe Kids Clark County, held at Las Vegas National Golf Club. Once again a wildly successful event: perfect weather, great line-up of food and goodies, tireless volunteers, and some pretty weird-looking golf swings... and outfits. In addition to sponsoring the 18th hole and contributing tickets to the raffle, In-House Production sent Alan and Carrie Kist, Bobby Keber, and Robbie Libbon as our representative foursome. To their credit, they did return both golf carts relatively undamaged.

Crime of the Century... Well, So Far

Sometime after darkness fell last Friday, thieves descended upon the headquarters of In-House Production. With the criminal intent of master thieves and the cunning and skill of the Three Stooges, they managed to pry the In-House Production sign from the outside of our offices. Sheared pieces of bolts indicated that they had used that rare and technologically-challenging tool of the trade, the pry bar. Who could they be? What is their purpose?

We await the inevitable ransom demand.

Kamehameha Schools Song Contest

Yesterday In-House Production Hawaii began the labor payroll for this year’s production of The Kamehameha Schools Song Contest, Hawaii’s annual music competition between graduating classes of the Kamehameha Schools. Begun in 1921 as a way of preserving and enlarging students’ repertoire of the best in Hawaiian music, the competition is televised live in Hawaii, webcast on the school’s website, and is simulcast on the radio as well.

In-House Production would like to thank Ted Jung Jr. of Liquid Planet Studios, and IATSE Local 665’s President Al Omo and Business Agent Donovan Ahuna for their continued good work and good will in making this a great event.

Criss Angel at the Luxor

Ground Support System

The MAGIC Convention was just in town. We at In-House Production supplied a 30' x 70' x 25' tall with 6 tower legs truss climbing (ground support) system. This was installed in the front lobby of the Las Vegas Convention for the MAGIC Convention, and used for Lighting and Sound, to light the runway and for interviewing the Clothing Manufacturers. With the help of Paul Chadwick, this part of the MAGIC convention was a big success. Come see our Ground Support System at the next MAGIC convention, which happens about every 6 months.

Colosseum Part 2

The Colosseum at Caesars Palace has made the changeover from Celine Dion to Bette Midler's stage event, and is now set up and ready for rehearsals. The raked stage on which Celine Dion performed has been removed, and a flat stage added. The stage thrust was shortened and more seats added to this 4000 seat theater. Tait Towers built the platforms used for the temporary stage. The Tait stage platforms can be changed depending on the show needs.

From December 26 to January 21st we removed the raked stage and stair unit used in Celine's show, and installed a Gala Lift System with 6 spiralifts and guides. The lift was designed to rise above the concrete floor by 4 feet. This was done to raise the basement floor to the height of the stage lift. We built up the basement with platforms built right here at In-House Production. (The risers are shown in our blog.)

We also installed over 30,000 feet of 3/16" aircraft cable to the fly system. The battens are all automated, each of them being a 15-line system per batten. We did this to remove curved battens used in the Celine Dion show, and to restore the venue to a more traditional theater feel.

We completed the changeover 3 days ahead of schedule, which allowed Bette Midler's load-in to start 3 days early. When truckloads of fly props and stage scenery began to arrive, we were ready to bring it into the theater and start installing the show.

Thanks Chase

Soon we'll have to say bye and thanks to Chase Webb for all the work he has done on the changeover at the Colosseum. He took time out from working and living in Hawaii to come to Las Vegas and help us with all the paperwork involved in payroll and billing. We had four jobs with four companies within the Colosseum, and labor needed everywhere. It was a big job just keeping up with who had to be billed to what part of which job, and he did great.

At the end of the month, Chase will be heading back to Hawaii to take care of a couple of jobs we're doing there.

Colosseum

In-House Production, on December 16th will start the change over from Celine Dion's five year run to the Bette Midler's show at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace Hotel. After working with CDA (Las Vegas), when installing the Celine Dion show (5) five years ago, and taking care of their labor needs for the past (5) five years, CDA (Las Vegas), AEG, and Harris Entertainment has hired I-HP for this very large change over of staging, rigging, lighting, video, audio, plus installing a Gala Lift in the center of the new stage. All lighting in the showroom will be removed, clean and rehang for the new Bette Midler show, the slope stage will be removed and replacd with a flat platform stage built by Tait Towers, In-House Production's Pro Stage will be used in the basement to bring the floor to the Gala Lift hight when the lift is down in the basement. Rigging will be removing curved batten pipes and replaced with straight batten pipes. This will involve recabling winchs motors, moving sheaves in the grid. The line sets ar 15 lines. Just a small theater.
